Tip for Parents #81
FACEBOOK ISN’T REAL
Stop competing with your Facebook newsfeed. Sometimes it’s easy to forget the obvious fact that your Facebook friends are putting their family’s highlight reel out there for all to see. Facebook is a funhouse mirror that makes you look and feel terrible. Do not accept the fun-house mirror as reality. It’s not.
Tip for Parents #82
DON’T GIVE YOUR KIDS REALITY AS A GRADUATION PRESENT
Kids never having to deal with reality until they leave home at the age of 18 is a pretty terrible and unfair situation to put them in. Kids need to be given more and more responsibility and suffer more and more natural and logical consequences so that the last few months before they venture out into the world full time look almost exactly like the real world they are about to encounter.
Tip for Parents #83
“GOOD” MOTHERS CREATE TERRIBLE BOYFRIENDS
Mothers who do every little thing for their sons starting from birth create boyfriends and husbands who believe that their significant other is responsible for taking care of them the way a mother cares for an infant.
These kinds of moms aren’t doing the world, or their sons, any favors. Moms: allow your sons to become people who are self-sufficient before they leave you!
Tip for Parents #84
“GOOD” FATHERS CREATE TERRIBLE GIRLFRIENDS
Fathers who treat their daughters like princesses create terrible girlfriends and wives who believe that their significant others should treat them like royalty. While dads should treat their daughters with respect (just like everyone else), they should not treat them like visiting dignitaries in their own homes, being showered with gifts and special privileges. Daughters need to know that they are responsible for themselves, for their own happiness, and their own livelihoods (just like everyone else).
Tip for Parents #85
Your kids being pleased with how you parent has nothing to do with good parenting.
